ProActuary, a company based out of the UK, works with actuaries and actuarial companies across the globe. ProActuary connects the world’s best actuarial professionals with the world’s leading actuarial employers as well as helping actuarial job-seekers to develop their career skills.
ProActuary emerged on the virtual events scene in September 2020 when 4,257 actuaries from 63 countries attended their first ever 3-day online event. The event, which was called ‘The Digital Actuary’ saw actuaries from around the world connect to learn about new emerging areas for financial professionals, including Data Science, AI, InsurTech and Climate, which stirred up a lot of excitement and interest in the global actuarial world.
At the time, ProActuary was a two-person team which consisted of Dr. Mark Farrell, an actuary and senior lecturer at Queen's University Belfast, and Suzanne Farrell, a psychologist who has worked in the education sector for over 20 years. The success of this global event led to support from InvestNI and TechStart which saw their product and services grow over the last two and a half years.
ProActuary was recently awarded a Platinum Level Innovator Award by the Department for the Economy. Three global events, and 11k+ virtual attendees later, and following the successful development of an online learning hub, they are excited to share with the actuarial community their new product: The World’s Largest Actuarial Job Site. ProActuary CEO, and co-founder, Dr. Mark Farrell explains, “I started working as an actuarial trainee in October 2000. My career has been a winding road through consulting, actuarial recruitment, academia and entrepreneurship.” He continues, “A common theme and problem I constantly faced, as an actuary, was being able to quickly and easily find what actuarial opportunities are out there. And to have the actuarial specific support system in place, to then help me successfully grasp those opportunities.”
Farrell has spoken to thousands of actuaries and actuarial students over the years. He says that a common issue is that they still often struggle to find a specific job that resonates with them and that is most optimally suited to their skillset, personality and goals.
“Sometimes they end up in the wrong role, simply because they weren’t aware of roles they could (or should) have applied to. Or, they found their dream role, but didn’t have the support system and knowledge in place to grasp it.” Says Mark.
To help solve this problem, ProActuary pulled everything actuarial together in a single, dedicated place.
As of launch, ProActuary has 4,000+ jobs specifically applicable to actuaries all in one place. ProActuary uses advanced machine learning algorithms so that job seekers can immediately streamline their job search by filtering their wants and needs such as salary, sector, software, qualifications, remote options, contact jobs and job function.
“We have also designed it so you can serendipitously discover roles you hadn’t even considered.” says Mark
ProActuary Director, and co-founder, Suzanne Farrell, explains that exciting global job opportunities are not the only offering. “We’ve added in-depth actuarial articles, actuarial guides, an AI actuarial prompt database and we’ve opened up our ProActuary Connect private membership space with actuarial courses, videos, library content and discussion forums. All of this is offered to actuaries for free, supporting our vision which is to help actuaries to thrive in their actuarial career, with the skills and knowledge to embrace new, exciting opportunities in the actuarial world.” says Suzanne.
