France began to say no to vegetable and vegetable plastic packaging

Recently, the French Ministry of the Environment announced that it would ban dozens of vegetables and fruits from using plastic packaging from next year. After five years, the scope of the ban on plastics will be extended to all fruits and vegetables. The list released on the 11th includes about 30 kinds of fruits and vegetables that are not allowed to use plastic packaging from January 1 next year, including leeks, eggplants, tomatoes, apples, bananas and oranges.

A small number of perishable fruits and vegetables, such as cherry tomatoes, asparagus, mushrooms, cherries, strawberries, etc., can still be packaged in plastic next year, but they need to be phased out and sold in bulk before July 2026.According to the French Ministry of Environment, the use of disposable plastics in daily life has reached an intolerable level. France passed the Circular Economy Law in 2020 to reduce the use of single-use plastics and replace them with other materials and reusable packaging. It is estimated that nearly 40% of fruits and vegetables on the French market are sold in plastic packaging.

After the implementation of the plastic ban, more than 1 billion unnecessary plastic packaging can be reduced each year.According to the government’s plastic ban plan, France will ban the use of plastic straws, cups, knives, spoons, and foam plastic takeaway lunch boxes in 2021. Starting in 2022, no plastic packaging is allowed for transportation publications; fast food restaurants are not allowed to provide plastic toys for free; public places must install direct drinking water taps to reduce the use of plastic beverage bottles.
