Veteran Shares Personal Journey with PTSD and offers "LIGHTT" to Others

When disabled veteran Paula Andonie started a job at her local Veteran Affairs Medical Center she was elated at the idea of helping her fellow veterans, but she was not prepared to face a 39-year-old secret she had held close.

In her debut book “The Secrets We Hide” Andonie guides us along her journey of self-discovery through pain, trauma, and treatment. Although trained by the military, taught to prepare for anything, and persevere she honestly and truthfully faces her struggle with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and MST head-on.

“It feels like you are a fly on the wall, listening to a friend recount the trauma that has haunted them for decades,” said a reader on Amazon. “The advice she received and the journey she took is one of strength, bravery, and it incites healing.”

Andonie penned the book, available at Barnes & Noble, Amazon, Walmart, and other major retailers, for everyone facing their own respective struggles and trauma saying she wanted to “offer hope although sometimes it feels like there is none.”

In that spirit, she launched “THE LIGHTT,” a non-profit organization geared toward assisting women veterans dealing with the effects of PTSD and MST. THE LIGHTT, still under development, will become a holistic center for women veterans that supports healing and healthy life choices through activities and education. Andonie also wishes to offer veterans a grant for SGB (Stellate Ganglion Block), a promising treatment not offered by the VA Medical Centers at this time. THE LIGHTT organization can be reached by emailing thelightt2022@gmail.com.

On Saturday, July 16, 2022, from 12 p.m. through 2 p.m., Andonie will be at Barnes & Noble in her hometown of Kansas City, Missouri to sign copies of her book and chat with patrons. Those wishing to attend can find the event at 1030 NE Coronado Dr. Blue Springs, MO 64014, and can click here for more information.
