Sunshine Coast community rallies in support of new hospital accommodation facility

Sunshine Coast, QLD – Wishlist is a local Sunshine Coast not-for-profit organisation that has been helping raise and direct funding for health care services since 1998.

Their latest project is Wishlist Centre, a four-level $14 million facility that will provide transitionary care accommodation to support patients undergoing treatment, as well as their families.

The facility will offer no-cost and low-cost services, such as a GP, youth mental health services, and additional medical, allied and specialist services.

Wishlist CEO Lisa Rowe says that due to the growing population on the Sunshine Coast, there is a great need for additional accommodation for patients undergoing treatment at the Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Services (SCHHS).

Wishlist Centre will help fill this gap, providing affordable physical, spiritual, emotional and psychological support services to families in a time of extreme upheaval.

“It’s a collaborative, innovative, Australian first in offering transitionary care, complementary therapies, and primary healthcare, all under one roof.” Ms Rowe says.

“It represents a new era for our hospital foundation in the way that we are able to work with our volunteer teams, with our supporters, to support families of local hospitals.”

Member for Fisher Andrew Wallace helped secure the $12 million Federal Government grant through the Australian Government’s Department of Health, Community Health and Hospital Program.

He says the Wishlist Centre will help to build a world class health hub for the local Sunshine Coast community.

“It’s hard not to be passionate about the need for more patient and family accomodation, especially when you see firsthand the grief a health crisis has on a family when they are travelling from rural or remote areas.” Mr Wallace said.

Wishlist are still running their ‘Donate a Virtual Brick’ campaign to help raise funds for additional furniture and amenities for Wishlist Centre.

When you donate a brick, you will be forever acknowledged within the Wishlist Centre on their brick wall. You can donate in the memory of someone else, for a business, or for yourself.

Each virtual brick is valued at $20 and is tax-deductible.
