Marquis Who's Who Honors Gary Dangerfield as a Top Professional for Military and Public Relations Expertise

UNIONDALE, NY / ACCESS Newswire / October 23, 2025 / Marquis Who's Who honors Gary Dangerfield as a top professional for his work as the external communications chief of Joint Base Lewis-McChord Garrison Public Affairs.

About Mr. Gary Dangerfield
Mr. Dangerfield was born in Dwight, Illinois, to a mother incarcerated at a women's correctional facility and a father who later passed in 1991. Despite the challenges of his life, he has excelled in his career and personal life. He was raised by his aunt and then his mother upon her return to Chicago. He credits the influence of his African American heritage and multi-community neighborhood upbringing for his achievements. He attended elementary (and private for special educational needs) school through high school in the Chicago public school system.

In his early life, Mr. Dangerfield was heavily involved in sports. The lessons he learned while playing contributed to his accomplishments throughout his career. He believes sportsmanship in life is just as valuable a trait as it is in the athletic world. Sports also helped him establish strong relationships with others and taught him to be open to those from diverse backgrounds.

After high school, Mr. Dangerfield would walk on as a football player at Iowa State University. After failing to make the team, he left Iowa State after his first semester. Mr. Dangerfield returned to Chicago to attend Wilbur Wright Community College as a student athlete until Wright C.C. discontinued its football program.

Mr. Dangerfield subsequently transferred to Hutchinson Community College in Kansas, where he completed two semesters and was a member of the football and track team. Returning to Chicago, he completed his studies for an associate degree in general studies while attending Wright C.C. for one final semester.

Seeking ways to support his firstborn daughter, Ashley, as well as earning tuition to complete a bachelor's degree in radio television and broadcasting, Mr. Dangerfield enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1987. Complete a three-year tour of duty in West German, he returned to Illinois in 1990 to attend Southern Illinois University, where he would join the school's Reserve Officer Training Corps. In 1992, Mr. Dangerfield was commissioned as an armor officer in the U.S. Army after earning a bachelor's degree. He returned to active duty in 1993, attending the Officer Basic Training Course at Fort Knox, Kentucky. Mr. Dangerfield would go on to earn a master's degree in public relations at Webster University in 2011.

Returning to the Military
Mr. Dangerfield, as a captain at Fort Lewis, Washington, would serve as an armor company commander from 1999 to 2000, during which time he was responsible for leading 63 soldiers and preparing them for deployment in combat zones. His leadership skills were acknowledged by the army when his company was recognized as one of the best on the West Coast. This was a result of earning the Draper Armor Leadership Award for his company capturing back-to-back Top Gun Tank titles at the crew and company level, with the highest average in the brigade.

Due to his master's degree and background in radio and television broadcasting, Mr. Dangerfield transferred to public affairs. After his two tours in Iraq, he was honored with the Bronze Star Medal for his service. In total, Mr. Dangerfield's military career spanned 26 years. For his excellent service, he was also awarded the Legion of Merit upon his retirement from active duty.

Making an Impact
Outside of his professional life, Mr. Dangerfield has been married to his wife, Rhonda, for 22 years. Together, they have a blended family and have raised five children who are now adults. The support of his wife has been important throughout his career, and he considers her his best friend.

Mr. Dangerfield's future plans include making a positive impact on his community, particularly advocating for children with special education needs. He wants to use his experiences with perseverance and resilience to help children who are struggling.

Mr. Dangerfield's advice for everyone is based on the lessons he has learned throughout his life. "Be open-minded, willing to listen and hungry for information and opportunities to improve. Every day is an opportunity to improve. You can't always control the things happening around you, but what you can control are your own efforts," he says.
