TANDBERG Television Extends Contribution and Distribution Leadership at NAB 2009

TANDBERG Television, part of the Ericsson group (NASDAQ:ERIC), will use NAB 2009 to unveil a selection of new products that extend its market lead for video contribution and distribution (C&D). The company will be demonstrating its ability to deliver the highest quality video in MPEG-2, MPEG-4 AVC, high definition, standard definition, linear and non-linear formats over satellite or fiber, plus video management innovations.

TANDBERG Television C&D products at NAB include:

  • New RX8200 integrated receiver decoder, which gives service providers a la carte freedom to select the features they need
  • New RX8330 distribution receiver, which can receive HD services and provide a down-converted SDI output for broadcast or monitoring applications
  • New Cortex-2, which simplifies the management of video resources over either ATM or IP/MPLS networks
  • Next-generation EN8040 Voyager, the world’s most integrated and complete SNG (Satellite News Gathering) uplink solution
  • Next-generation MediaPath Secure Content Delivery System (SCDS), the long-time leader in content and metadata distribution.

“The C&D market demands proven video quality, high levels of integration and interoperability, and increasing levels of flexibility,” says Roger Bolton, EVP of compression systems at TANDBERG Television. “At NAB 2009 we are showing how we combine these qualities in our broad range of products as we once again raise the bar for functionality and performance.”

Visitors to the TANDBERG Television C&D Zone on booth SU5108 can find out more about the company’s latest solutions for DSNG, professional video reception and processing, video management and asset management and distribution.

Professional Receivers

The new TANDBERG Television RX8200 Integrated Receiver Decoder sets a new benchmark for receiver performance and flexibility, allowing service providers to select the functionality they need and avoid paying for features they will not use. Based on TANDBERG Television’s proven receiver platform, the RX8200 ensures high quality and reliability for a diverse range of contribution and distribution requirements from basic to very advanced. In combination with TANDBERG Television’s MPEG-4 AVC encoders and DVB-S2 PREKOR™ satellite modulators, the RX8200 achieves unrivalled bandwidth efficiency, allowing more HD services per transponder compared with any competing solution.

This new receiver is designed to maximize service provider choice: all the options for input, Conditional Access, video decode, video processing features and audio decode can be individually configured at purchase. Input choices include ASI, DVB-S2 and Gigabit Ethernet IP. Video decode choices include MPEG-2 SD 4:2:0, MPEG-2 HD & SD 4:2:0, MPEG-2 SD 4:2:2, MPEG-2 HD & SD 4:2:2, MPEG-4 AVC SD, MPEG-4 AVC HD and SD, and low latency decode. Multi format support reduces the need for multiple devices, while the a la carte approach to RX8200 functionality will reduce the cost of entry for service providers who need highest quality receive/decode solutions.

DSNG

TANDBERG Television will unveil the latest version of the EN8040 Voyager at NAB 2009. The EN8040 is the world’s most integrated and complete SNG (Satellite News Gathering) uplink solution, offering multiple concurrent encoding engines, integrated satellite modulation, advanced multiplexing capabilities, dual IP output with ProMPEG FEC, plus improved latency performance, increased picture quality and extended bitrate range. The EN8040 is the ideal choice for SNG operators looking for high levels of flexibility and interoperability as they prepare for more MPEG-4 AVC and HDTV.

Management Solutions

NAB will see the launch of Cortex-2, the next generation of the proven Cortex Management System, designed to simplify the management of video resources over either ATM or IP/MPLS networks. Built on nCompass Control (TANDBERG Television’s complete management system for headend configuration, system monitoring and redundancy), Cortex-2 gives full control of all TANDBERG Television equipment plus a rich set of features including redundancy, user management, graphical monitoring and routing.

Visitors to the TANDBERG Television C&D zone on booth SU5108 can see Cortex-2 controlling a range of the company’s encoders and decoders with integrated dual Gigabit Ethernet IP interface modules. The latest dual Gigabit Ethernet modules support IGMPv3 to enable diverse routing where multicast sessions are in use, SMPTE 2022-2 (ProMPEG) FEC to recover dropped packets, and configurable buffers to enable low delay content distribution.

Content Distribution

For non-linear content distribution applications, TANDBERG Television will be showing Next Generation Mediapath®. This is the next generation of MediaPath Secure Content Delivery System (SCDS), the long-time leader in content and metadata distribution. Next-generation Mediapath harnesses DVB-S2 to provide faster satellite delivery while simultaneously providing terrestrial delivery via a shared network.

MediaPath is suitable for many types of file-based content including video data files and VOD assets. It can automatically schedule specific content (such as a specific television show) to be sent to targeted broadcast affiliates when it becomes available and securely encrypts the content files for distribution.
