The track, an innovative cover of Al Green’s “I’m A Ram,” and a staple of her live performances, is an ode to Angel’s deep connection with the sounds that came out of the 60’s and 70’s, coupled with her own soulful twist. “I’m a Ram” is a taste of what’s to come from Angel in the next few months as she rolls out her debut, self-titled EP.
“I’m a Ram has such a cool driving rhythm and such power to it. It’s given me a lot of freedom to be fierce vocally, which I love,” says Angel. “I think lyrically the song is just about feeling sure of yourself and your power. One of the repeating lyrics is “drive on, until I get there”. I think it’s really just about trucking along full force with the power and strength of a ram!”
Having grown up in LA, Angel has consistently been influenced by the dreamy west coast energy and music that came out of the rock and roll era. While it’s often thought that the city is too saturated to stand out as a musician, Angel believes the creative depth that LA offers has strengthened her love of art and made her into the successful singer-songwriter she is today.
“I think growing up in LA where I knew so many people in entertainment and the industry allowed me to consider pursuing music more confidently; when you see it happening all around you it’s a lot easier to imagine it for yourself,” she states.
After such success with her first ever single, Play Pretend, which garnered 75K streams, listeners can expect Ali Angel’s new single and upcoming EP to make big waves in the radio waves.
