The debut of the latest line of plus-sized wear was unveiled in New York Fashion Week on Fifth last September 10, 2021 on 608 Fifth Avenue between 48th and 49th Streets in New York.
Renee Cafaro Atelier is a design house that focuses mainly on plus size wear, looking to be a premier option for luxury wear for curvy women. It also caters exclusively to ethically made and sourced designs to support sustainability in fashion — a movement that has been gaining traction due to support from design brands like RCA and more. Charging the vision of the design house is its founder and lead designer Renee Cafaro, a fashion industry veteran who has become one of the leading style experts for the luxury plus size category. Cafaro is also the US editor and in-house expert for international plus size publication, SLiNK, where she shares her insights on how to bring confidence to women of the plus category.
It’s no secret that curvy people, especially women, have been victim to bullying and discrimination. The fashion industry has not been without exemption. But designers like Renee and the design house Renee Cafaro Atelier look to address this growing issue by promoting better fashion options for women that the industry has shunned for a considerable time.
During NYFW on Fifth, Cafaro released the Millennium collection, which captures the zeitgeist of the 90s era that pays homage to pop cultures of old while also looking forward to the future of tailoring. The collection also shows Renee’s deep understanding of the ever-evolving landscape of women’s fashion and culminates nearly a decade of experience in plus-size fashion. 67% of women make up the multi-billion dollar plus size fashion industry, a sector that has been underserved for a while, mainly amongst more luxury-based selections. Her unmistakable passion for fashion and inclusion comes alive in the latest collection that looks to sweep the plus-size industry by storm and penetrate into culture, music, and lifestyle as whole.

RCA’s Millennium Collection draws inspiration from the illustrious music and film award shows. It brings the best sustainable materials into a collage of superbly curated designs, including top quality fabrics, “blinged-out styles“, sequin embellishments, and chainmail tops, among many others. Renee Cafaro Atelier focuses on the chic and playful, bringing about a versatile and sophisticated feel to plus-size apparel, something of great lack among the curved community. Renee Cafaro Atelier looks to push forward women empowerment and rights especially for those among the plus-size community, and pushes its mission — “women claiming their power.”
The New York Fashion Week featured in-person attendance and virtual streams. “Fifth Avenue is home to the most iconic heritage brands in fashion and we are excited to watch the future of fashion walk the runway at 608 Fifth Avenue in September,” said Jerome Barth, president of Fifth Avenue Association. “Our longtime goal is to reclaim Fifth Avenue as a centralized location for fashion week.” The event complied with protocols from the CDC and required full vaccinations for all attendees.
The presentation event Friday night was attended by hundreds of prominent leaders in the body positivity realm as well as Olympian Dalilah Muhammad, and music celebrities like Canadian pop star Locklyn, 98 Degrees boy band member Jeff Timmons and fashion/music Icon Casey Spooner. Renee Cafaro was introduced by curve supermodel Emme who also walked in the show.
