Molina Healthcare of Illinois Provides $250,000 to Touchette Regional Hospital System on Giving Tuesday

Molina Healthcare of Illinois (“Molina”) has presented $250,000 to Touchette Regional Hospital System to help close existing health care gaps and remove barriers preventing populations who are in most need of immediate support. Since the onset of the pandemic, Molina has been working to identify community-based organizations and provider partners to help meet the growing and changing needs of our members and their communities.

“Molina’s grant to Touchette Regional Hospital System will support our valued provider in addressing health disparities and responding to emergencies more efficiently, particularly during this challenging year,” said Matt Wolf, president of Molina Healthcare of Illinois. “This support will establish more equitable access to quality health care for the most vulnerable and underserved members in the Metro East communities”

Molina’s donation is anticipated to help strengthen Touchette’s Behavioral Health and Community Support Program, an initiative that provides behavioral health providers with funds to help endure the many challenges caused by the pandemic.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) reports Black Americans and Hispanics have limited access to prevention, treatment, and recovery services for substance use disorders. While they have similar rates of opioid misuse as the general population, in recent years Black people have experienced the greatest increase in the rate for overdose deaths from non-methadone synthetic opioids.

“We want to thank Molina for providing this grant, which will allow us to continue providing the necessary behavioral health services to our patients,” said Jay Willsher, president Touchette Regional Hospital. “Disparities are real, and we appreciate the Legislative Black Caucus and Molina for their support.”
