Small Business Owner Aims to Bring Lasting Change to Northeast Ohio Manufacturing Capabilities

Cleveland, Oct 19, 2020 (Issuewire.com) - Quinn Hale, owner of Copper Kerf in Lakewood, Ohio, designed Oubie Loop in April 2020, a flexible silicone band to provide immediate relief of ear pain caused by prolonged mask wearing during the coronavirus pandemic. High demand from essential workers and people requiring face masks with assistive hearing devices has been a challenge for the small family-owned development firm to meet.

Hale is now strategizing to restructure Copper Kerf and bring large-scale small manufacturing home to Cleveland because no U.S. company can produce it to his specifications at a reasonable price.

Oubie Loop features posts on an asymmetrical band that can accommodate different head sizes and face mask styles.  Made from a silicone used by the entertainment industry for prosthetics like fake noses or simulated limbs, it is designed to be applied directly and comfortably to the skin for long periods of time. The product is currently available in four colors with patent pending.

"We received thousands of orders, but it's impossible for our current equipment to keep up," Hale explained. "To outsource the manufacturing of Oubie Loop I would have to significantly increase the price or take production overseas. I'm convinced the people of Northeast Ohio can help us make this project a reality that creates jobs for Clevelanders while solving a worldwide problem."

According to Hale's detailed research, approximately $150,000 is needed to upgrade Copper Kerf into a company capable of mass production of Oubie Loop and products like it in the future. On October 20, he launched a Kickstarter campaign to complete his company's renovation and meet the needs of front-line workers across the country and around the world.

"The critical need for people to wear protective face coverings in public settings is so very serious that we named Oubie Loop for our cat, Oubliette," Hale said. "It's a whimsical name, for a silly cat, that we hope makes people smile and release a little stress from their spirit as well as their ears."
