Olivette Riverside Community and Farm Supports Western North Carolina Families During Pandemic

Area's first 'agrihood' is helping provide organic produce to vulnerable families through its farm and volunteers

ASHEVILLE, NC, July 14, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Olivette Riverside Community and Farm, an innovative farm-to-table living community, is working with area nonprofits to provide freshly grown, organic foods to area families each month to help support them during the pandemic.

Ongoing food supply concerns, skyrocketing unemployment, and having children home from school during the pandemic have combined to put many families who were already struggling with food security in an even more vulnerable position.

The Olivette Service Corps is a group of Olivette residents who are committed to being of service to individuals and families who are in need of support. Olivette Service Corps member JoAnne Kalp is currently organizing bi-weekly community donations of food and provisions to Buncombe County school families with children who might otherwise be missing meals because schools are closed due to the pandemic.

Olivette Riverside Community and Farm features a year-round organic farm run by a full-time organic farmer just a few miles north of Asheville, NC. They are Western North Carolina's first and only agrihood community, thoughtfully built on 346 acres along the French Broad River.

"Our farmer has been outstanding in his efforts to implement safe methods by wearing protective gear when handling harvested foods, and to work with local nonprofits to provide fresh, organic produce to area families who need support most," Olivette founding partner Allison Smith says.
