LapSafe® celebrates 20th Anniversary at BETT 2020

By: Issuewire

The classroom of today looks and operates significantly differently to the classrooms of 20 year’s ago.

Colchester, Jan 20, 2020 (Issuewire.com) - Gone are the days of a solitary desktop computer in the corner, the 21st Century classroom houses various technologies from Interactive Flat Panel Displays (IFPDs), to tablets, laptops and smartphones, all seamlessly connected by Wi-Fi or Bluetooth and supported by a range of software from cloud-based to apps.

Used to handling the latest technology in their personal lives, the current generation of digital-native students has become more independent in the classroom and technology is an expected requirement rather than an added advantage.

Way back at Bett 2000, LapSafe® launched the first-ever storage and charging trolley which was designed to deploy a small volume of mobile computer devices whilst offering recharging and full network/internet connectivity.  Now a common resource in schools but in the early days of 'Laptops for Teachers' it was all new and even a little bit scary.

Since then the Bett exhibition has been the launchpad for LapSafe® to showcase its new innovative products, year on year. The requirement for device charging has changed dramatically over the years, from the initial management of expensive laptops to handheld PDA's, then the introduction of smaller laptops to netbooks, back to larger laptops and then on to iPads, tablets, Chromebooks and Microsoft Surface.

The most notable change of technology within the education sector has been that there is no longer the need to limit the lesson within the traditional four walls of the classroom. Schools are empowering teachers and students to take more control over their learning and harness the potential of new learning experiences, encouraging learning to take place in other venues such as libraries and museums.

January 2020 will see LapSafe® celebrate their 20th Anniversary of exhibiting at the Bett Show in London. Originally hosted at the Barbican Centre since 1985.  The Bett show then moved onto Olympia London in 1993, where it continued annually until 2013. The popularity and size of this education exhibition meant it needed to relocate to the even larger exhibition space, ExCel London.

Over the last 20 years no matter what devices are being used within the Education sector, LapSafe® has provided the perfect device management solution at the right time and has launched a new product(s), or product enhancement to the range every year.

2000 - The first-ever storage and charging trolley called the Mentor holding 30 laptops and charging without using the devices AC adapters was launched. The Mentor has become LapSafe®'s flagship trolley and they still support and upgrade trolleys sold twenty years ago!

2001 - LapSafe® launched the Traveller which transported up to 10 devices whilst providing charging and connectivity without the need or AC adapters. The compact size of the Traveller meant that it could fit neatly into the boot of any car.

2002 - The new Mentor ChargeLine is launched which allows the use of the device's own AC adaptors supporting 'Bring Your Own Device' (BYOD) and allows for a mix of devices stored and charged.

2003 - LapSafe® opened BETT with its first dedicated custom stand.  The now popular trolley demonstrated easy upgradability and LapSafe® introduced an addition to their range, The Primary Trolley, a cheaper trolley designed specifically for Primary Education.

2004 - A new range of touchscreen kiosks (CleverKiosk) was launched and the promotion of the expanding Mentor range continued which now included storage and charging of PDA and handheld devices.

2005 - The Blue custom-built stand changes color to pink and the first fixed storage and ChargeLine unit is launched called the Ambassador.

2006 - This year the Mentor security features were enhanced to meet the ever-changing needs of the education sector.  With more and more schools investing in IT, laptops and similar devices became a target for the opportunist thief.

2007 - The LapSafe® stand doubles in size and a new mobile desk with build-in charging is launched along with data transfer (DTM) capability which allows data to be transferred to all devices storage and charged simultaneously.

2008 - Keeping up with innovation the Qcharger is launched - a device to charge up to 8 laptop batteries outside the laptop itself. This allowed users to 'hot swap' the batteries in their laptops rather than waiting hours for them to recharge.

2009 - The new LapSafe® storage and charging trolley range is launched called the UnoCart.  Designed to fit neatly under workbenches and could be moved easily from classroom to classroom.

2010 - Celebrating their 10th birthday LapSafe® launch the 'Lifetime Warranty' across their product range and they still rate very highly for their after-sales support.

2011 - The new LapSafe cost-effective ClassBuddy range is launched and to celebrate LapSafe® released their first-ever competition open to all primary schools.  The lucky winner won a trolley for their school with five netbooks and the student also won their own netbook.

2012 - Another new stand and the innovative Diplomat NeDap LoXS was launched. A charging locker incorporating RFID access.

2013 - Bett moves to ExCel and LapSafe® open with their largest stand with the Diplomat Self-Service device loan lockers being launched with a series of on-stand events.  These lockers require no staff present and allow the student to borrow a device for set periods of time.

2014 - The Traveller range has a makeover and a new range of mobile charging cases for iPads and similar are launched

2015 - The now popular Diplomat range gets bigger with the launch of PINcode access lockers and a new Art competition is opened again aimed at Primary schools

2016 - This year sees the launch of a brand new and innovative designed high quality and desirable range of wall, desk and mobile solutions called the Indigo range.

2017 - This ClassBuddy trolley range is expanded and has two new additions, a wall, and desk unit.

2018 - The DiplomatLITE is launched which offers similar functionality to the DiplomatLMS and designed with secondary schools, sixth forms, and colleges in mind.

2019 - The LapSafe® FLEX range of wooden personal storage and charging lockers are launched and are designed to support agile working by maximizing workspace.

2020 - The ultra-compact ClassBuddy Locker 32 will be launched. An addition to the successful ClassBuddy range the floor standing locker has been designed for 32 Chromebooks or small laptops.
