Pacific Marine Expo Keynote Panel to analyze Army Corp of Engineers' Draft Environmental Impact Statement on Pebble Mine Development in Bristol Bay

A keynote panel of industry leaders will do an examination of that question and many others during an in-depth discussion of the recent Army Corp of Engineers' Draft Environmental Impact Statement on Pebble Mine Development in Bristol Bay from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21, at Pacific Marine Expo at CenturyLink Field Event Center in Seattle.

"Shaky science and lack of information are driving the industry to fight back against the recent advances of Pebble Mine in Alaska's Bristol Bay," said Jessica Hathaway, Editor, National Fisherman magazine.

Joining Hathaway on the "Pebble Mine: The Changing Minds" Keynote Panel will be Andy Wink, Executive Director, Bristol Bay Regional Seafood Development Authority; Daniel Schindler, Director, Alaska Salmon Program; Mike Friccero, former board president of the Bristol Bay Regional Seafood Development Authority; and, Everette Andersen, Director, Bristol Bay Native Corporation.

Hathaway noted that this year's sockeye salmon catch was over 55 million. Bristol Bay accounted for 78% of that total and, at a value of $306.5 million, is the most valuable harvest on record.

"The panel discussion gives our Expo audience an opportunity to review the mine's potential effects on Bristol Bay's environment and fishing communities, and ask questions of a wide range of stakeholders," Hathaway said.

The Keynote Panel is one of the highlights of the free education program at Pacific Marine Expo, which offers sessions on marine safety, business management, regulatory issues and technical advancements, and more. In addition, this year National Fisherman will host a full track of sessions dedicated to Young Fishermen right within their booth.

The Expo is the West Coast's largest commercial fishing and marine trade show, serving all aspects of the maritime industry, including commercial vessel owner and operators, commercial fishermen, boat builders, suppliers, and seafood processors. Last year's Expo featured more than 500 exhibitors and over 6,000 visitors from 40 states and 24 countries.

This year's Expo is set from Thursday, November 21, through Saturday, November 23.
