World Women Foundation Partners with FICO Foundation on Gender-Based Moonshot Initiative to End Hunger by 2030

Women are crucial to the functioning of a healthy and sustainable food system

BOLOGNA, ITALY, October 18, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- FICO Foundation Chairperson Andrea Segré and World Woman Foundation, CEO, Rupa Dash signed a Memorandum of Understanding in presence of the Italian Minister Plenipotentiary Leonardo Bencini, Directorate for Development Cooperation today to help raise awareness on Gender-Based Moonshot to end hunger and help feed the future by 2030.

Activities will include production and promotion of relevant educational content on food and agriculture, such as organizing joint research, exhibitions and other events on improving food security, boosting nutrition and reducing food waste, as well as the necessary actions to achieve progress towards Sustainable Development Goals.

The first-ever Gender-Based Moonshot Initiative to End Hunger by 2030 will recognize women beyond the fields that are working to make every aspect of the food system more sustainable, innovative, and equitable. Whether it is to reduce food waste or founding organizations to feed the hungry better, the partnership will work to accelerate women's leadership around the world to build the future of food.

World Women Foundation and Fico Foundation partnership highlights:

•Empowering women through spaces of participation that allow the identification of specific actions to promote and recognize their roles in agriculture and the food ecosystem
•Advocate for public policy solutions to end hunger and to shorten the line at food banks, lobbying for continued funding of federal hunger relief programs, and for public policies that help communities prevent and divert waste from landfills, including recycling, composting and sustainability programs that can be scaled for maximum impact.
•Encouraging the adoption of cutting-edge technologies by women producers.
•Identifying lines of action for agricultural innovation that benefit women and reduce their workload.
•Enhancing the participation of women in government bodies and food companies to prevent and divert waste from landfills, including recycling, composting and sustainability programs that can be scaled for maximum impact.
•Collecting data on access to productive resources and the use of the time that are disaggregated by Gender to understand the role of women in agriculture and quantify their workload.

Women that are inspiring others and creating a better food system around the world will be recognized with the Global Voice Award for Food Sustainability. The partnership will play an active role in the initiatives related to World Food Day (October 16). Both organizations will also work together to promote the International Bologna Sustainability and Food Award, for which World Woman Foundation will be represented on the Jury.
