Macbeth Academy Kicks Off a New School Year with a Unique Approach to Virtual Education

IRVINE, CA, September 11, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Macbeth Academy, an online, college preparatory school for Grades 2-12, provides one-to-one classes in conjunction with self-paced nationally recognized honors, AP and career pathway courses for Elementary, Middle, and High School Students. Kayla Solinsky, Head of School and educator for over a decade, lead Macbeth Academy's annual School Kickoff, to introduce their online community to an innovative blended education model for the 2019-2020 school year. To begin, Solinsky re-affirmed the school's mission that, "all students are unique and should have access to an individualized education." The new model is certainly "unique". Starting August 26th, full-time and part-time students in Grades 2 through 12 will have access to hundreds of self-paced virtual classes with weekly support from certified Macbeth Academy teachers.

The weekly meetings solves a major problem in the distance learning space: a lack of live support. Traditionally, distance learning students are free to complete courses at their own pace by accessing class materials, videos, quizzes, tests, and homework at their leisure. Online programs traditionally offer either sporadic tutor support, a semester check-in from multiple teachers that puts the majority of assessment responsibility on the student. This leads to a lack of accountability.
After the webinar Solinsky shares, "Based on our research, in most cases, students are not equipped to assess themselves for knowledge retention. Our teachers are now equipped to guide students through online learning."

Solinsky goes on to stress accountability as a major strength of the new Macbeth Academy model, "Our students now have access to cutting edge technology and our faculty goes a step further with the accountability piece. Self-paced students will now be held accountable for their work. The weekly one-to-one meetings will ensure that our students are completing their work on schedule and retaining information through assessments, classwork, and live discussions."

In addition to being subject area experts, Macbeth Academy teachers also go through a rigorous professional development training to ensure they can support students in the system itself. "Our teachers are both certified subject area experts and technologically adept to give the best support possible which, in an online course, can mean anything from grading support to going into the system to address a specific student concern."

This personalized approach to distance learning has been garnering attention worldwide. Administrators say that 150 students are likely to be enrolled in the next month from countries including the United States, Canada, and China.
