On Tuesday, September 25th at the regularly scheduled Board Meeting, the Cajon Valley Union School District (CVUSD) Governing Board received updates from staff on three programs aimed at supporting the District vision of “Happy Kids, Engaged in Healthy Relationships, on a Path to Gainful Employment”.
Director Mike Serban updated the Governing Board on the FACE (Family and Community Engagement Office) program which is designed to support all families, especially those whose first language is not English, in fostering collaborative relationships with the school staff and community.
The mission of the Family and Community Engagement Office (FACE) is to empower all families by helping in the development of relationships between school staff and parents to ensure students’ academic and social-emotional well-being are improved. There are 14 community liaisons that work with CVUSD. The community liaisons’ primary role is to assist parents and school staff as an additional resource. The FACE Offices aids parents in developing relationships with school staff, teachers and community resources so that true collaboration and authentic parent engagement can occur. CVUSD believes that authentic relationships are the real reason why schools improve and communities thrive.
The FACE office provides multiple ways in which CVUSD helps build relationships within their school communities. Some of the programs that Cajon Valley Union School District provides are Newcomer Welcome Meetings, Parent University, Poverty Simulations for School Staff, Positive Home Visits, After School Tutoring for Newcomers, Preschool “Let’s Read Together” with Dads, Mini- Parent University Workshops, Hopes and Dreams Meetings, and Parent-Centered Support Meetings.
