A Portion of Royalties Will Benefit the Narada Michael Walden Foundation
SAN RAFAEL, Calif. - Aug. 30, 2015 - PRLog -- Singer/songwriter Kathryn Keats has teamed up with Grammy-winning producer and musician Narada Michael Walden to release COUNT ON ME, an inspirational single aimed at helping people cope with emotional pain. A portion of royalties will benefit the Narada Michael Walden Foundation, which supports music education for young people.

“I started writing the song for a friend who had suffered a late-term miscarriage, but then I realized it was relevant to anyone who is going through hard times,” Keats said. “Narada read the lyrics and asked if I had music. Well, nothing like Narada would compose, so we went to work. It was fantastic to write with him.”

Count On Me has a medium-tempo melody that builds to a choir-like crescendo, with lyrics about the emotional healing power of friendship: “If you have no hope, dream / If you have no voice, sing / If you can’t believe in nothing at all, count on me / If you have no faith, pray / If you have nothing else, I’m gonna stay / If your heart is breaking down, count on me.”

Walden, who is known for his work with Whitney Houston, Stevie Wonder and other superstars, produced Count On Me at his Tarpan Studios in San Rafael, California. On the record, Walden plays piano, keyboard and drums, with Keats singing lead vocals. Background vocals are performed by Nikita Germaine, Sakai Smith, Jeanie Tracy and Claytoven Richardson, who, individually, have worked with Celine Dion, Curtis Mayfield, Stevie Wonder, Chaka Khan, Train, Aretha Franklin, Elton John, Ricky Martin and more.

With a desire to have Count On Me visualized from a young person’s perspective, Keats and Walden turned to film students at the nearby Marin School of the Arts to create a music video. In it, a young man and woman are seen arguing with their father, which leads to a tragic conclusion. The action is interspersed with shots of Keats and Walden performing Count On Me.

The video was directed by Bradley Virshup and assistant-directed by Lorenzo Conti, and features actors Annabella Mineghino as the young woman and Harley Phleger as the young man. The father is played by David Chase, a San Francisco-based actor who has appeared in many theatrical productions, movies and TV series, including Picket Fences, Nash Bridges, and Midnight Caller.

“I am excited to be part of this project, and am very grateful to Kathryn,” Chase said. “She created an atmosphere where there was very little pressure and there was a sense of community, team work and cooperation.”

“This song is about how we cope with loss,” Mineghino said. “Although the video focuses on one family, we all have bits and pieces of that family dynamic within our own personal relationships. It is important to remember that, whether it be a family member, friend or significant other, we all have someone to count on.”
