What Do Prison, Governors, Mayors, Embassies, and Tourism Ministries Have in Common on April 25th?

By: PRLog
On Sat., Apr. 25th, 10 am local time, in 100s of cities, over 80 nations, mass Tai Chi and Qigong teach-ins and exhibitions are held to educate the world of the massive potential health cost savings of educating citizens in Mind-Body Medical Practices. The motto of this unprecedented global happening is "One World...One Breath."
PRLog - April 15, 2015 - OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- This spectacularly visual mass global happening known as World Tai Chi & Qigong Day (WTCQD), with all FREE events held the last Saturday of April each year (April 25, 2015, 10 am local time, worldwide), has been recognized by government bodies and officials in many nations, and over 22 US states, for its important health education work. World Tai Chi & Qigong Day events are held in city squares and streets throughout the world, and past events throughout Latin America were covered by Associated Press Television; Euronews; BBC Television; while Havana, Cuba's WTCQD event was covered by Agence France Presse TV, and other events like the one in Los Angeles, CA were covered by local news, and Egyptian National News, Brazilian National News, China's Xinhua News Agency, etc., covered events in their nations, while events in Israel and New York City were covered by Taiwan International Television NTDTV News [see below video], and past events were covered by FOX News, CNN Headline News, the New York Times; and others. WTCQD organizers have also been sources for WebMD, Prevention Magazine, and publications worldwide on Tai Chi for Health articles.

But, World Tai Chi & Qigong Day events are also being supported by Embassies in various nations in 2015, for promoting international cooperation for the purposes of health & healing. See this slideshare slideshow explaining the many facets of this event.

This year's coming 2015 event in Cairo, Egypt, for example, will be co-sponsored by both the Chinese Embassy and the Indian Embassy in Cairo, as well as by the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism. The U.S. Consulate in Hong Kong has also been helpful in helping the Founders of this event expand its success in Hong Kong as a compliment to ongoing U.S. Hong Kong people-to-people relations. The Italian Embassy in Beijing, China sponsored a WTCQD event in Beijing one year.

National and regional sports and recreation ministries have supported World Tai Chi & Qigong Day events as well in Italy, the United Kingdom, Baja Mexico, Hong Kong, etc., and many US city and county governments have sponsored events, as well as hospitals, universities, senior support, and more.

World Tai Chi & Qigong Day has worked with the National Institutes of Health, the American YMCA and the National Council on Aging (http://www.worldtaichiday.org/AGINGCouncil.html) to expand Tai Chi and Qigong into society nationwide, and has presented for the American Heart Association, National Parkinson's Disease Foundation, etc..

All events are free and open to the public, and people need not know anything about Tai Chi or Qigong to participate. Many events offer free teach-ins just prior to the worldwide Tai Chi and Qigong wave at 10 am, so that the general public can play with the world at that special moment.

The event's motto is "One World ... One Breath" as "qigong" means "breathing exercise" in Chinese.

Anyone can visit the official event website at WorldTaiChiDay.org and search by postal code (http://listings.worldtaichiday.org/whd-listings) to find event organizers in their locale in over 80 nations. Also, they'll find free learning resources, medical research on Tai Chi and Qigong, and many more free resources--a public service from WorldTaiChiDay.org.

WHO AND HOW DID THIS MASS GLOBAL PHENOMONON GET CREATED?

17 years ago, WTCQD Founders, and then Kansas City area Tai Chi teachers, Bill Douglas (Kansas born) and Angela Wong Douglas (Hong Kong born) were frustrated at the lack of information on the emerging medical research on Tai Chi and Qigong ... Bill's parent's had both died of stress disease (heart disease) and had rejected Bill's attempts to teach them Tai Chi and Qigong because their doctor didn't know about it.  Bill & Angela vowed to not let this happen to other's parents for the same reasons, and when they released their 1st edition of their book "The Complete Idiot's Guide to T'ai Chi & QiGong" with MacMillan Books in New York, they included a chapter titled, "World Tai Chi Day -- Changing the World with Tai Chi and Qigong." (Recently released in 4th edition with Penguin/Random House.)

Around that same time they organized a mass Tai Chi exhibition on the lawn of Kansas City's famed Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, to educate the public about Tai Chi medical research, and CNN Headline News picked it up, and then Tai Chi groups worldwide began to contact Bill and Angela, asking to participate. The event spread like wildfire, and a couple years later Hong Kong's South China Morning Post did a nearly full page article/interview with Bill entitled, "A Simple Desire to Make Everyone Healthier Prompted One Man to Organise World Tai Chi Day from His Kansas Home." (Jan. 4, 2000)  http://www.worldtaichiday.org/corporate_stress_tai_chi_qigong/world_tai_chi_day_south_china_post.html

Since then Tai Chi has spread into society and modern healthcare at a rapid pace, and many Tai Chi teachers worldwide believe that Bill and Angela's efforts with World Tai Chi & Qigong Day organizing has made the difference.

Today, Bill and Angela teach for the University of Kansas Hospital and KU Medical Center, providing Tai Chi and Qigong Meditation programs for seniors, people dealing with heart disease, MS, Parkinson's, chronic pain, and other chronic health challenges, and many of their students who are all patients seeing physicians for their conditions have seen amazing benefits from their Tai Chi Meditation programs. See local PBS affiliate KCPT's coverage and interviews of some of the participants in Bill and Angela's hospital classes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XChYGONleBw

Bill and Angela also worked over these 17 years to expand Tai Chi and Meditation into prison and penal rehabilitation (presenting at Folsom Prison in California, and Kansas City's Jackson County Court System rehab. program), in public schools, churches, special education, corporate wellness, and through major health systems ... and today provide Tai Chi and Qigong teachers worldwide with tips on how to replicate their efforts globally to promote health, calm and peace worldwide. All these are free resources, a public service from World Tai Chi & Qigong Day's official website WorldTaiChiDay.org.

Their efforts resulted in, for example, Queensland Australia Tai Chi teacher, Rod Ferguson landing a grant to provide all seniors in their Australian community with free Tai Chi classes, and Kansas Tai Chi teacher, Linda Bowers creating a Tai Chi program for the Topeka Women's Correctional Facility in Kansas, and Australian Tai Chi teacher, Bev Abela, beginning a Tai Chi program through a women's prison in Perth, Australia. UK Tai Chi teacher, Mark Peters, and member of the Tai Chi Union of Great Britain, created a Tai Chi education page for the UK's National Health Service using WorldTaiChiDay.org's free medical research information on Tai Chi.
