Unique Ceiling Space at the Grand Hyatt New York Needs A Custom Designed Solution
PRLog - Jul 23, 2013 - MANHATTAN, N.Y. -- The Grand Hyatt NYC recently renovated its lounge area in the main lobby, which included the lighting. Lighting designer Dan Weinreber, of Kaplan Gehring McCarroll Architectural Lighting, designed the lighting plan that complimented the overall design envisioned by architect Bentel & Bentel, Locust Valley, NY "The renovation of the Grand Hyatt New York presented many unique lighting challenges. Bentel & Bentel Architect's new vision for the lobby included a cohesive and unified central volume. Old mirrored ceilings were painted white and dark bronze to express the rhythm of the structure." indicates Dan Weinreber partner at Kaplan Gehing McCarroll Architectural Lighting.
The new unified ceiling was achieved by uplighting the 18" and 9' deep coffers to a similar and uniform brightness. Mounting locations at the ends of the shallow coffers and the center of the deep coffers required unique optics to distribute the light without glare at the mezzanine level or scallops on the sides of the deep coffers. Emerge fabricated mockups with a custom 60x10 optic in the linear WashgrazeXP fixtures and provided calculations to confirm their effectiveness in the space. Dimming parallel rows of 2700K and 6300K fixtures allows the volume of light in the space to create daylight changes
throught the day. Emerge's precision optics and ability to provide a custom solution were vital to the successful transformation of the iconic Grand Hyatt New York.
