"One of the most common violations that I see is that of improperly installed grab bars..." - Nick Sasso
PRLog - Jun 15, 2013 - PORT RICHEY, Fla. -- -
!
Height - For the typical adult, grab bars must be installed in a horizontal position, 33 inches minimum and 36 inches maximum above the finished floor. This measurement is to the top of the gripping surface. It is important to remember that these are absolute values, and grab bars must always be positioned inside of this range. Where any ADA standard states a specified range, the range provides an adequate tolerance and therefore no tolerance outside of the range at either end point is permitted.
!
Length - Generally and with very few exceptions, the rear grab bar must be a minimum of 36-inches in length and the side grab bar must be a minimum of 42-inches in length.
!
Position - The REAR wall grab bar should be positioned so that it extends from the centerline of the toilet 12 inches (minimum) on one side, and 24 inches (minimum) on the other side. The SIDE wall grab bar should be positioned so that it extends 12 inches (maximum) from the rear wall and 54 inches (minimum) from the rear wall. Sound complicated?
