LONG BEACH, CA - Millikan High School star running back Anthony League has officially committed to the University of California, Berkeley (Cal) for the 2025 recruiting class. This decision marks a significant milestone in League's athletic career and adds a formidable talent to Cal's future roster.
League, a 6'1", 205-pound senior, has been a standout player throughout his high school career. During his junior year at Los Alamitos High School, he amassed impressive statistics, including 995 rushing yards, 13 touchdowns, and an average of 9.6 yards per carry over 104 attempts. His performance has continued to shine at Millikan High School, where he recently led the team to a 50-14 victory over Carson with a four-touchdown performance.
"I'm thrilled to announce my commitment to Cal," said Anthony League. "The coaching philosophy of Coach Aristotle Thompson, the family-like atmosphere among the running backs and the entire program, and Cal's academic prestige were key factors in my decision. I'm excited about the opportunity to grow as both an athlete and a student at such a prestigious institution."
League's decision to commit to Cal came just one day after receiving an offer from the university, highlighting the strong impression made by the coaching staff and program. His commitment is seen as a significant addition to Cal's 2025 recruiting class.
Romeo Pellum, head coach of the Millikan High School football team, expressed his support for League's decision: "Anthony's commitment to Cal is a testament to his hard work and talent. He's not only an exceptional athlete but also a leader on and off the field. Cal is gaining a remarkable young man who will undoubtedly make a positive impact on their program."
League's versatility as both a running back and linebacker, combined with his speed and agility, make him a valuable asset for Cal's future plans. His commitment comes after receiving offers from several other notable programs, including Washington, Colorado, Arizona, Oregon State, Utah, and BYU.
"We're incredibly proud of Anthony and his decision to commit to Cal," said William League, Anthony's father. "This opportunity aligns perfectly with his athletic goals and academic aspirations. We're grateful for the support he's received from his coaches, teammates, and the entire Millikan community throughout this process."
As League prepares for the remainder of his senior season at Millikan, he remains focused on leading his team to success while looking forward to his future as a Golden Bear. His dedication to both his athletic and academic pursuits has been a hallmark of his high school career, earning him respect and admiration from peers and mentors alike.
In addition to his on-field achievements, League has been recognized for his academic excellence, maintaining a strong GPA while balancing the demands of a rigorous training schedule. His commitment to academics was a significant factor in his decision to choose Cal, a university renowned for its academic rigor and excellence.
"Anthony's ability to excel in both academics and athletics is a testament to his discipline and work ethic," noted a Millikan High School academic advisor. "He serves as a role model for other student-athletes who aspire to achieve success in all areas of their lives."
The coaching staff at Cal, including running backs coach Aristotle Thompson, is eager to welcome League to the program, recognizing his potential to contribute both on and off the field. "Anthony's dedication to his craft and his ability to perform under pressure are qualities that will serve him well at the next level," said a Cal recruiting coordinator. "We're excited to see how he develops as a player and a student at Cal."
