JANAT Paris Brings Guinness-Record Tea and French Oak–Matured Tea Experience to FOODEX Japan 2026

-- Tokyo — At FOODEX Japan 2026, the historic French tea house Janat Paris will present the tea recognized by Guinness World Records™ as the world’s most expensive tea, alongside a distinctive French oak–matured tea concept that blends tea craftsmanship with French aging traditions.

Founded in Paris in 1872, Janat Paris has built its reputation through a vertically integrated model linking tea cultivation in Sri Lanka with global distribution. The company works with a community of more than 9,000 women involved in tea harvesting and production, supporting sustainable agriculture while maintaining quality from plantation to cup.

The brand is also known for its “Lucky Tea” identity, symbolized by two wide-eyed black cats that have become recognizable mascots for tea lovers from France to Japan. Visitors to Janat stores often participate in the ritual of touching the cats for luck before enjoying their tea.

The Guinness-record tea was acquired in 2025 during an international tea auction held at Expo 2025 Osaka. Organized by the Sri Lanka Tea Board with the support of the Japan Tea Association, the auction brought together tea houses and collectors from around the world, with proceeds supporting women-led farming communities in Sri Lanka.

The tea originates from Sapphire Valley, a highland rainforest region in Sri Lanka known for its preserved ecosystem and minimal environmental disturbance. The plantation focuses on maintaining soil health, biodiversity, and harvesting practices designed to protect the natural character of the tea.

Alongside the record-setting tea, Janat Paris will also present its French oak–matured tea. The tea is aged in oak barrels traditionally used in French wine and spirit production, allowing it to develop deeper aromatic layers and subtle woody notes. The process reflects Janat Paris’s approach of combining tea culture with elements of French gastronomy and craftsmanship.

At FOODEX Japan 2026, Janat Paris will present these teas through what the brand calls the “Lucky Tea Experience,” tracing the journey of tea from plantation to cup while highlighting how origin, cultivation, and craftsmanship shape the character of fine teas.

FOODEX Japan 2026 will take place March 10–13, where visitors will be able to discover both the Guinness-recognized tea and the French oak tea concept.
