Beth Urdang Gallery Hosts Clara Berta's Solo Show of Calming Abstract paintings
CLARA BERTA: Recent Paintings Show dates: March 18 - April 18, 2026
WELLESLEY, MA - February 28, 2026 - Beth Urdang Gallery is extremely pleased to introduce and now represent Clara Berta, a brilliant painter of exuberant light-filled abstractions based in Laguna Beach, California whose works reflect all the natural radiance of her surroundings. Currently featured in “Mostly Black & White,” an extensive group exhibition of paintings, photographs, drawings and sculpture. Look forward to a more in depth view of her work with Berta's upcoming first one-person show in the main gallery at 15 Central Street in Wellesley, MA, from March 18 - April 18, 2026.
Painting in a wide range of scales but primarily large, the artist intuitively pours, splashes and builds layer upon layer of vibrant acrylic pigment, of which the spectacular results inevitably reflect Berta's spontaneous mind set and emotion of the moment as well as the environment they are created in. The artist works in a small studio by the ocean so consciously or not, fluidity and transparency are clearly both subject and method. Berta is a Hungarian-American who freely acknowledges that country’s widespread focus on the healing powers of thermal springs. Coupled with an academic background in psychology, her paintings clearly emphasize art’s great legacy of being a vehicle to express emotion, while earlier connections to performance artist and movement tie in to the physical process of their creation. With clear cut references to Pollock, Frankenthaler, Morris Louis and Action Painting in general, they are remarkably unique, fresh, and dazzling.
Expanding on this therapeutic foundation, Berta’s profound connection between creation and emotional recovery is the subject of a recently released, award-winning documentary. (Clara Berta: An Artist’s Journey Directed by Ayrton Carrazco) The film celebrates her inspiring journey of turning personal grief into a global healing practice through her art.
Clara Berta studied advanced composition and technique at the Santa Reparata School of Art in Florence, Italy, and printmaking in the US. Her calming abstract paintings have been exhibited and collected worldwide, including in Europe, China, Dubai, and notably at the Chiba City Museum of Art in Japan. Her work has been featured in high-profile film and television productions on prominent networks such as Disney, 20th Century Fox, ABC, and CBS.
Adding to this impressive on-screen footprint, Berta's artwork recently reached a massive global audience when it was prominently featured in a national 30-second Super Bowl commercial for Ray-Ban Meta Glasses with Chris Hemsworth, Chris Pratt, and Kris Jenner.
