Sioux Falls Sustainable Agriculture For Kids: New Experiential Learning Program

Bucket Buddies has launched a character-driven education initiative that takes kids from storybooks to soil, giving families in Sioux Falls and beyond a fresh, hands-on path to sustainable agriculture learning.

-- Across the country, parents who want children to build practical life skills are looking for learning experiences that fit into real family routines. Bucket Buddies, a children’s brand based in Sioux Falls, has launched a food education initiative that blends books, original cartoons, and hands-on growing activities for kids.

A spokesperson explains that the initiative was shaped by a common obstacle, which is that many enrichment programs depend on fixed schedules, costly memberships, or in-person attendance. That structure can restrict access for families managing school, work, and other commitments, so Bucket Buddies set out to remove those barriers with a flexible model that families can use at home, on their own time.

Bucket Buddies built the program around three connected learning formats that reinforce the same themes from different angles. Children start with the Bucket Buddies book series, available on Amazon, where characters introduce ideas about food, nature, and where everyday ingredients begin. The brand’s YouTube channel extends those lessons through animated storytelling, using entertainment to strengthen understanding and retention. As a third step, the Grow Club then brings the concepts into real-world application by guiding children through structured food-growing activities.

Grow Club follows a four-step process. Participants join the platform, follow age-appropriate growing instructions, document progress with a photo or short video submission, and receive an official character patch after completing the challenge. Each patch is tied to a specific character and skill, so the recognition reflects what children learned, rather than how long they stayed enrolled.

A character-driven approach ties the experience together. The same characters children meet in the books and cartoons also lead them through Grow Club challenges, creating a consistent learning identity across reading, viewing, and hands-on practice.

Designed for kids ages 6 to 14, the program aims to develop patience, responsibility, and a clearer understanding of food production through steady, visible progress. The Bucket Buddies representative described the motivation behind the model: “Families kept telling us they wanted their kids to learn real skills in a way that was safe, positive, and something they could do together at home. We built an entire ecosystem around that idea — books, cartoons, and growth challenges that all work together.”

For families interested in a broader impact, an optional fundraising feature supports the development of school and community gardens. Bucket Buddies has also announced plans to expand the initiative into a larger experiential farm model, following early interest from families nationwide.
