Basten currently serves operationally within the Amsterdam fire service and previously served with the 11 Air Mobile Brigade, including deployment to Iraq. His work is informed by personal experience following a period marked by post-traumatic stress, burnout, and addiction, after which he rebuilt his life around structure, discipline, and clarity rather than motivational slogans. This rebuilding process became the foundation of Tiger Mentality and the NAV method, which stands for Navigate, Activate, and Strengthen.
The NAV method was developed for high-responsibility professionals often referred to as “carriers,” individuals who hold significant responsibility both professionally and personally. The framework is designed to support a transition from survival-based decision-making toward greater ownership of time, energy, and direction.

Rather than functioning as a persuasive tool, it is positioned as an education-first filter intended to slow decision-making and encourage critical evaluation. The framework is designed for environments where claims are polished, risks are understated, and downside considerations are often omitted.
The BS Check operates as a structured set of questions that examine the substance of an opportunity, including the clarity of the claim being made, the realistic downside, available evidence beyond marketing material, the implications of starting at a small scale, and the acceptability of worst-case outcomes. The framework intentionally avoids urgency, promises, or pressure, and is presented as a clarity tool rather than advice.
Following completion of the BS Check, individuals may choose to engage further through educational or structured discussion pathways. These include access to contextual briefings, an English-language educational library hosted on LearnPro, and limited structured conversations designed to support decision clarity. Participation is intentionally capped, with Basten working with a maximum of five individuals per month to maintain quality standards.
The BS Check currently focuses on the Dutch-speaking market, with an expansion to a broader English-speaking audience underway. Early access to the English version is being offered through a waitlist, while the Dutch-language framework is already live.
