South Florida LGTBQIA+ Friendly Outpatient Rehabilitation Program Announced

Calusa Recovery (866-939-6292), based in Fort Myers, has announced updates to its intensive outpatient drug and alcohol rehabilitation program, now with a focus on welcoming LGBTQIA+ clients.

The center’s expanded program focuses on serving South Florida’s LGBTQIA+ community and addressing the many challenges that individuals may face when seeking treatment for alcohol or drug dependence.

Recognizing that LGBTQIA+ patients may struggle against discrimination, mental health concerns, and a lack of equitable resources, the updated outpatient rehabilitation program from Calusa Recovery is designed to include participants from all backgrounds.

Statistics from National Institute on Drug Abuse show that people who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, intersex, or asexual are a greater risk of substance abuse in relation to the general population, but at the same time, this group faces more harassment, violence, and barriers to treatment. The intensive outpatient program at Calusa Recovery welcomes all members of the LGBTQIA+ population with open arms. “Seeking addiction treatment can be challenging no matter who you are, but members of the LGBTQIA+ community face challenges that may make it even more daunting,” explains a spokesperson. “Calusa Recovery is here to provide the best South Florida LGBTQIA+ addiction treatment possible and we take extra care to meet the needs of these individuals.”

The outpatient program eliminates the need for clients to enroll in a residential treatment facility, while offering assistance for overcoming addictions to alcohol, cocaine, heroin, methamphetamines, and opioids.

With professional experience and knowledge of the multifaceted issues that can affect diverse populations, the therapists, counselors, and physicians at the center work with patients to create a customized treatment protocol. They help to identify various forms of trauma, including social stigma, internal conflict, and relationship tensions, within a safe environment.

The center’s goal in regards to LGBTQIA+ clients is to function as a group of allies and a source of affirming care and unconditional support, especially for those who may have not had their needs understood or met in the past.

Previous program participants have positive reviews for Calusa Recovery. “The team at Calusa treats you like a real person with love and respect,” says Monta T. “They push you to be responsible, but in a way that is caring and helps you find self-love.”
