Attorney Melissa Mosier secured a $9 million settlement for a truck driver catastrophically injured when a 1,000-pound industrial roll fell from more than 15 feet from his tractor trailer bed, crushing him at a South Carolina industrial yard. The incident left the client with severe traumatic brain injuries, multiple fractures, and permanent cognitive and physical impairments.

Mosier uncovered evidence that the yard failed to follow basic safety procedures, lacked written loading protocols, and ignored known hazards, despite prior similar incidents. When insurers denied responsibility and refused to pay for critical medical care, Mosier not only took on the legal side of the case, she also ensured her client received lifesaving care during the most vulnerable period after his brain injury.

“This case was about truth and accountability,” Mosier said. “Rules exist to protect workers. When companies ignore them, lives are destroyed and someone has to be willing to step in and take the risk to make it right.”

Attorney Brent Arant was recognized for a $2.8 million settlement obtained for a healthcare worker struck in a marked crosswalk by a company truck while lawfully crossing with pedestrian signals. The collision caused complex injuries to her spine, hand, and hip, requiring multiple surgeries and ongoing treatment.
Despite clear liability, the defense attempted to minimize the injuries and obscure available insurance coverage. Arant’s trial-ready approach uncovered multiple layers of commercial insurance, developed a comprehensive life-care plan, and assembled compelling expert and witness testimony.

“They had an opportunity to resolve this case early,” Arant said. “Once the trial date was set and the evidence was undeniable, they understood the risk of not doing the right thing.”

Just days before trial, the case resolved for $2.8 million, ensuring long-term care, financial security, and dignity for the client.
