Anne Ward Crocker and Canada-based self-publisher Bookside Press announced the release of “Close Friends’ Cathedral Adventure,” a new Children’s Book that follows Peat, a toad, and Paul-Paulette, an earthworm, on a journey through the woods and across the Washington National Cathedral. This Children’s adventure book blends an Animal friends story with Educational fiction, offering a narrative in Nature and wildlife that highlights Friendship and discovery through toad and earthworm characters. Set against the backdrop of a Festival of Flowers, the tale guides readers through the cathedral’s Garth and grand interiors, providing a tour of Cathedral architecture for kids and a short glossary of architectural terms. It aims to spark Exploration and curiosity among young readers.
In the story, Peat and Paul-Paulette live under the roots of Christy, a Christmas fern, in a forest undergrowth. When Christy is disturbed by humans, she is replanted in a pot large enough to shelter Paul-Paulette, but Peat must hide beneath her fronds. Along with their wildflower friends, they are transported to a Festival of Flowers at the Washington National Cathedral. While the plants are moved into the cathedral, Peat is discovered and left outside in the Garth, setting off his solo quest. Combining elements of Educational fiction and Children’s adventure book tropes, the tale invites engagement with real-world landmarks and fosters a sense of wonder at grand structures. A short glossary of terms is included.
