Synergy Sports Capital Launches to Acquire Controlling Stakes in High-Growth Leagues, Teams and Sports-Driven Ventures

Builds on Early Win with Atlético Dallas USL Soccer Team, includes Heisman Trophy Winner and Former NFL Running Back Reggie Bush as a Partner in the Firm

Synergy Sports Capital (Synergy) today announced its official launch, introducing a private equity firm focused on high-growth emerging leagues outside the traditional Big 4, primarily in the lower middle markets with strong upside potential. The firm is targeting approximately $150 million in capital commitments for its inaugural fund, which will pursue controlling stakes in emerging leagues and related sports ecosystem assets.

Founded by Texas A&M record-setting wide receiver and second-round NFL draft pick Terrence C. Murphy Sr., the firm is built on the belief that the next era of value creation in sports will come not from minority stakes in mature franchises, but from controlling investments in leagues positioned for structural expansion and growth.

“Right now, most big investors are putting their money into established teams that are already priced at the top of the market,” said Murphy, Founder and Managing Partner. “We see a bigger opportunity in emerging leagues where fan bases are growing, media deals are expanding, and team values are still on the rise. In those environments, strong leadership and hands-on involvement can really move the needle over time.”

Murphy has already begun executing this strategy through bold investments in emerging professional sports, including joining the ownership group of Atlético Dallas, a rising professional soccer club in Texas. These rapidly emerging leagues signal a powerful wave of growth, fan engagement, and untapped investment opportunity sweeping across the U.S. sports landscape.

“From day one, Terrence and Synergy approached Atlético Dallas as long-term builders, not passive investors,” said Matt Valentine, Chairman and Founder of Atlético Dallas. “They understand how to connect team performance, fan growth, and real estate infrastructure development into one cohesive strategy, and that alignment is critical as we scale.”

Murphy’s path to launching the firm was shaped by adversity. After his NFL career was cut short by a career-ending injury during his rookie year, he transitioned into entrepreneurship, building a multi-billion-dollar real estate and investment platform spanning thousands of transactions, developments, and more than 100 portfolio companies inside of his Terrence Murphy Companies portfolio. He was also a founding member and on the board of Alumni Ventures, specifically, Texas A&M’s Venture Capital fund Ring Ventures fund I and II. That operating experience now informs Synergy’s approach to sports investment and ownership.

Synergy acquires and operates controlling stakes in high-growth leagues and teams, and integrates them into what it calls its Synergy Sports Operating System – a centralized platform that combines technology deployment, data analytics, media strategy, and stadium-anchored real estate development and sports-adjacent businesses. The model is designed to generate diversified revenue streams across the 3-pronged approach to investing, team operations, mixed-use projects, and sports-adjacent ventures.

Unlike traditional sports funds that rely primarily on long-term franchise appreciation, Synergy’s strategy emphasizes multiple monetization pathways, including real estate development and cash flow, media growth, and adjacent business expansion, to create earlier liquidity opportunities for their LP’s.

“Synergy stood out because they’re not just investing in teams – they’re actively shaping how they grow, operate, and scale, while building smart, long-term value around them,” said Heisman Trophy winner and former NFL running back Reggie Bush, a Partner in the fund. “Terrence brings the mindset of someone who has built businesses at scale over 20+ years, and that hands-on, conviction-driven approach is what makes this strategy so compelling.”

Bush also brings direct leadership ties within the emerging sports ecosystem through his involvement with The Athletes Tour, further expanding Synergy’s connectivity to athlete-driven leagues and next-generation sports properties.

Synergy is focused on leagues demonstrating measurable growth in viewership, sponsorship, and cultural momentum – particularly in women’s sports and next-generation formats – and is targeting sophisticated investors seeking growth-oriented exposure to the evolving sports landscape.

“We’re focused on buying and building the next big 4,” Murphy said. “We want to own, operate and integrate, which then builds true enterprise value.”
