Starfighters Midland: great-circle distances from Midland International Air & Space Port (MAF).
Key Highlights:
- Aircraft, engines, and support equipment are being relocated to Midland to support flight operations and customer programs.
- Midland expands access to nine locations, including spaceports, Air Force bases, and test ranges across the U.S. Southwest.
- The additional location, along with Starfighters’ headquarters at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center, gives Starfighters operational resilience and flexibility.
Starfighters is expanding its Texas operations to increase scheduling flexibility and to position assets closer to air, spaceport, and test-range infrastructure. The Company expects the Midland site to support a higher operational cadence and to provide geographic flexibility alongside its Florida operations.
Tim Franta, Chief Executive Officer, said, "Midland’s strategic location allows us to reach nine different air and spaceport locations. The flexibility of the Starfighters platform allows us to scale operations rapidly, especially compared to static vertical launch sites."
From Midland, Starfighters can reach nine locations across Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Nevada, Utah, and California: Ellington Field (Texas), Tinker Air Force Base (Oklahoma), Holloman Air Force Base (New Mexico), White Sands Missile Range (New Mexico), Spaceport America (New Mexico), Nellis Air Force Base (Nevada), a U.S. Air Force facility in Nevada, Utah Test & Training Range (Utah), and Vandenberg Base (California). The map below shows great-circle distances from Midland to these sites.
Starfighters is partnering with the Midland Development Corporation (MDC) on high-speed corridor initiatives focused on safe supersonic flight over land. The Company expects the Midland site to support these efforts as operational cadence increases.
At present, Starfighters reports four F-104 aircraft and 14 GE J-79 engines at Midland. The Company expects the number of aircraft and engines to double in the next 18 months.
Kennedy Space Center remains the Company’s headquarters and a key operating location. The Midland expansion is intended to add capacity and geographic flexibility while supporting Starfighters’ airborne testing and air-launch development programs.
