I/ONX High Performance Compute (HPC) and Mote Marine Laboratory, Inc. (Mote) are partnering to incorporate AI and heterogeneous compute into marine research and science education with the intention to enhance marine and coastal science technology.
Two percent of I/ONX’s annual gross revenue will fund Mote AI compute-related initiatives–including cooperative research and technology development via large dataset aggregation, analyses and visualization across all research programs including coral and seagrass genetic libraries, harmful algal bloom, water quality monitoring, ecotoxicology, ocean technology instrumentation, and marine mammals.
“It is humbling to have the opportunity to contribute to protecting humans, the environment, plants, and animals,” said Justyn Hornor, CEO of I/ONX. “We are grateful and excited to partner with Mote to take marine biology research to new industry standards – making us all future ready for a better today and tomorrow.”
After a formal evaluation and assessment, I/ONX will deploy and pilot its AI compute solutions to provide technology expertise for marine science, and to protect Mote’s intellectual property and data ownership. I/ONX and Mote will co-develop workflows, data products, and operational procedures. Both partners will also collaborate to pursue joint funding and outreach opportunities, and define working processes for future engagements.
“This partnership is about people as much as it is about technology,” said Dr. Michael P. Crosby, Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium President & CEO. “By working alongside I/ONX, we can responsibly use advanced computing to support our researcher and technology development, strengthen science education, and translate complex data into knowledge that helps oceans and coastal communities thrive. This gives our scientists new tools to see patterns, solve problems and move discovery forward faster while staying grounded in our responsibility to protect marine life and the communities that depend on healthy oceans.”
The collaboration is a testament to both I/ONX’s and Mote’s commitment to protecting people and the planet, advancing knowledge, empowering the next generation, and leaving a positive mark on the world.

Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium has a 70-year legacy as an independent, nonprofit, 501(c)3 global marine research and science education institution. Mote began in 1955 and flourished on the foundational pillars of “Passion, Partnership and Philanthropy” - the passion of a single researcher, Dr. Eugenie Clark, her partnership with the community and philanthropic support, first of the Vanderbilt family, later with the significant support and guidance of the William R. Mote family, and today through donations by thousands of individuals who believe in the mission of Mote.
Today, Mote has grown into ten campuses stretching from Sarasota Bay to Key West. Mote has 38 diverse world-class research programs and centers of excellence studying oceans locally and internationally, with an emphasis on positively impacting conservation and sustainable use of marine resources.
