With more than 35 years of experience in his field, Dr. Fleming has made significant contributions during his career. As a medical professional, Dr. Fleming's career began with an educational foundation. He first enrolled at Kalamazoo College, where he underwent a transformative experience during an orientation program modeled after Outward Bound. Presented with real challenges that demanded attentive adherence to instruction, the program served as the wake-up call he needed to take a new approach to his education and career.

Beginning a Professional Career

After Dr. Fleming completed a bachelor's degree at Kalamazoo College, he went on to earn a Doctor of Medicine from Wayne State University and completed his residency there in 1989. Building from this early perspective-shifting experience, he joined the Henry Ford Health System as a urologist and began his professional career. There, he conducted a laser course that provided instruction to staff and external urologists.

During his time at the Henry Ford Health System, Dr. Fleming had the opportunity to observe the practice's team during the development of robotic prostatectomy by Dr. Mani Menon, a pioneer in the field. As the fifth member of that team, Dr. Fleming was able to observe and learn as the procedure was being refined, gaining valuable insight into its processes. As such, he has since acquired the skills necessary to perform a robotic prostatectomy procedure.

It was in 1999 that Dr. Fleming joined Togus Veterans Affairs Medical Center to perform locum tenens work until 2005, still working with Henry Ford Health System until 2006. That year, he became head of urology at West Bloomfield Satellite, after which he served as a urologist at West Shore Urology from 2006 to 2013. Following a dedicated period at West Shore Urology, Dr. Fleming decided to launch a solo practice: Lakeshore Urology.

Building a Solo Urology Practice

During his tenure at Lakeshore Urology, Dr. Fleming also served as chief of surgery and chief of staff at North Ottawa Community Hospital in Grand Haven, Michigan, in 2015 and 2016, respectively. In 2020, his practice was recognized as the first center of excellence for green light lasers by Boston Scientific, speaking to his expertise in laser technology for health care. In 2025, Dr. Fleming left his practice to return to his work as a physician.

A Notable Career in Urology

For his contributions to the health care field, Dr. Fleming has received several awards and accolades, and he maintains membership in various key organizations. He was named among America's Top Physicians by the Consumer Research Council of America in 2006 and is a member of the American Urological Association and the American Medical Association. Additionally, he has received three honor coins from special forces veterans he has treated over the years, tokens he considers deeply meaningful.

Dr. Fleming's career journey has been diverse and extensive, and he only plans to continue advancing his field through his work in the coming years.
