Author Maria Vyasa has released a new educational video exploring Tara, one of the Dasa Mahavidyas from the Indian tantric tradition. It presents a unique way of connecting the ten wisdom goddesses with the six chakra system originated in the Kubjika School of Tantra.
The video titled "Tara - Dasa Mahavidyas" draws from Vyasa's 2024 book "Kundalini - a baptism of fire: The journey of the mystic." The Dasa Mahavidyas are a group of goddesses from the tantric tradition representing different wisdom aspects of the divine. The ten goddesses are Kali, Tara, Tripurasundari, Bhubaneshwari, Bhairavi, Chinnamasta, Dhumavati, Bhagalamukhi, Matangi and Kamala.
The video combines academic research with oral traditions from living goddess traditions as well as personal contributions to the symbology of the goddesses. Vyasa presents both established scholarly understanding and her own interpretations of the symbolic meanings. She explains how these goddess figures relate to the Kundalini process, a spiritual transformation described in yogic texts.
"My main contribution is connecting the Dasa Mahavidyas with the six chakra system originated in the Kubjika School of Tantra, in a unique and comprehensive way," Vyasa says in the video.
This connection between the goddess tradition and the chakra system represents new ground in understanding these ancient teachings. Vyasa's approach makes complex mystical concepts accessible while maintaining scholarly rigor.

Understanding Tara
Tara's name means "the savior" or "the liberator." The word comes from the Sanskrit root "tr," meaning "passing over." In Buddhist Tantra, Tara is said to help practitioners move beyond samsara, the cycle of birth, death and rebirth. Vyasa describes Tara as the bridge between the unmanifest and the manifest. Tara represents the first sonic vibration of manifestation, identified in the Vedas as OM. This makes Tara the first emanation of creative force. The video explores Tara's connection to the Sahasrara, the crown lotus in the chakra system. Proposing Tara to be the first emanation of life force from Bindu, situated in the Sahasrara, in the chakra system.
This theory is strenghtened by Tara´s connection to amrita (nectar of immortality) in her mythology, since Bindu is also connected to amrita. Tara in her form as amrita, Vyasa suggest, may be the higher forms of ichha shakti (power of will), jnana shakti (power of knowing) and kriya shakti (power of action) said to reside in the Sahasrara, the crown lotus.
These higher forms are Shivam (goodness) being the highest form of will. Satyam (truth) being the highest form of knowledge and Sundaram (beauty) being the highest form of action.
